Laurel is the co-founder of We Are the Youth, a photojournalism project that shares the stories of LGBTQ+ youth in the UNITED STATES.

She has won an AI-AP award for her TIME photo essay, documenting Cecilia Gentili’s funeral and was awarded the PDN30, given annually to 30 photographers worldwide.
